Multi-stage Pump

Choosing the Right Multistage Pump for Your Application

A multistage pump can be a horizontal or vertical pump simply known as a centrifugal pump that has more than one impeller. It is also referred to as a multistage canon or a multistage centrifugal pump. vertical multistage centrifugal pumps can have various impellers along with various pressure or volume chambers the main types of multi-stage pumps are centrifugal, mixed flow, and axial. Two or more impellers, like in a horizontal multistage pump, are connected in series, and the more impellers there are, the greater the fluid pressure produced. At a constant speed, the liquid enters the next fluid chamber from the first one, and the pressure increases by one stage. This process repeats for each impeller, increasing the pressure by one stage each time. Multi-stage pumps are an effective way to overcome single-stage pumps‘ lifting constraints. Additionally, the multistage centrifugal pump and horizontal multistage centrifugal pump are crucial to fluid handling techniques.

Features of Multistage Centrifugal Pumps

Advantages of multistage centrifugal pumps:

The advantage of multistage pumps is that they have a higher fluid pressure due to a greater number of impellers.

Compared to single-stage pumps at the same efficiency, multistage pumps occupy a smaller footprint and are more energy-efficient.

Disadvantages of multistage centrifugal pumps:

Because multistage pumps have multiple impellers, the cost of maintenance and upkeep is higher compared to single-stage pumps. Additionally, the rotors of multistage pumps are more sensitive to external vibrations.

Multistage centrifugal pumps have a smaller flow rate and do not allow any solids in the fluid during operation.

Multistage pumps can be divided into vertical multistage pumps and horizontal multistage pumps. The axis of a vertical multistage pump is vertical, while that of a horizontal multistage pump is horizontal. Horizontal multistage pumps generally have a higher flow rate than vertical multistage pumps. Vertical multistage pumps are more suitable for confined spaces.

Main applications of multistage centrifugal pumps: water supply for high-rise buildings, high-pressure water supply for firefighting, boiler feed water, cooling systems, air conditioning systems, water treatment and purification, or any other application requiring higher delivery pressure.

  4. The D-type horizontal multistage centrifugal pump, MD-type wear-resistant multistage centrifugal pump for coal mines, and DF-type corrosion-resistant multistage centrifugal pump are segmental multistage centrifugal pumps with foot brackets, connected by tension bolts to join the suction segment, middle segment, and discharge segment.D-type horizontal multistage centrifugal pump is mainly used for water supply and drainage in factories, cities, and mines.MD-type wear-resistant centrifugal pump for coal mines is mainly used for transporting neutral mine water and similar sewage (only applicable to non-mining working surfaces in coal mines).DF-type corrosion-resistant multistage centrifugal pump is mainly used for the transportation of moderately corrosive media in metallurgy, mining, coal mining, and chemical industries. When the flow components are made of duplex stainless steel and other materials, it can also be used to transport seawater and highly corrosive media. Operating conditions: D-type horizontal multistage centrifugal pump is used to transport clear water without solid particles or liquids with physical and chemical properties similar to clear water. MD-type wear-resistant multistage centrifugal pump for coal mines is used to transport sewage with solid particle content (volume concentration) not greater than 1.5% (particle size less than 0.5mm) and a temperature not higher than 80°C. DF-type corrosion-resistant multistage centrifugal pump is mainly used to transport acidic or alkaline mine water or similar weakly corrosive chemical sewage. Liquid temperature: 080°C, flow range: 3.751200m³/h, head range: 50~1550m.
  5. KQAM axial split case multistage pump is a double inlet form, with the first stage consisting of two single-suction impellers and the last stage consisting of a double-suction impeller. The pump outlet is located in the middle of one side of the pump body, and the two inlets are symmetrically arranged on the other side of the pump body’s outlet center. The main flow components include double suction chambers, first stage impellers, first stage pressure chambers, first stage transition channels, second stage impellers, and second stage pressure chambers. All impellers are back-to-back and all transition channels are symmetrically arranged to effectively balance the axial forces generated at the small shoulder of the impeller cover and the rotor due to pressure differences. The pressure chambers all use a double volute structure, which can effectively balance the radial forces acting on the rotor, ensuring safe, stable, and reliable operation. Flow rate: 76019200m³/h, head: 140520m. The KQA(S) series axial split case multistage pump is a new product designed and manufactured according to the latest version of the API610 “Centrifugal Pumps for Petroleum, Heavy Chemical and Gas Industries” standard, specifically designed for extreme conditions such as high temperature, low temperature, and high pressure. It is a horizontal, axial split case, multistage centrifugal pump with a volute shell structure, centerline support, and symmetrical impeller arrangement for automatic axial force balance, eliminating the need for complex balancing mechanisms such as balance discs and drums, making it safer and more reliable when conveying media containing particles. The inlet and outlet are located at the bottom of the pump body and can be disassembled and installed without moving the inlet and outlet pipes. The first stage impeller can be designed in single-suction or double-suction structures. The sealing system is designed in full accordance with API682 “Centrifugal and Rotary Pump Shaft Sealing Systems” and can be equipped with various forms of sealing, flushing, cooling, or insulation solutions according to user requirements. The bearings can be self-lubricating roller bearings, plain bearings, or forced lubrication bearings, depending on the shaft power and speed. When viewed from the drive end, the pump rotates clockwise. It can also be designed to rotate counterclockwise according to user requirements.
